A Bride loves to shine

Necklines determine the jewellery you should wear. A strapless wedding dress that goes straight across the top of the bust will look great with a choker.

Petite brides try long earrings without a necklace; they will elongate the neckline. A sweetheart or V-neckline wedding dress suits a pendant because it falls to imitate the shape of the dress, be careful though, if there is a lot of beading or detail at the top of the dress, a necklace can be to much, and earrings or a tiara would be a better option. If your wedding dress has a lot of lace, choose jewellery that is delicate.

When it comes to colour, choose pieces that complement your wedding dress and your bridesmaids’ dresses. Colour is key, research shows that most brides will not be wearing white on their big day, ivory tones make up 80% of sales, with delicate shades of pink, peach, lilac, mint and blue being popular. Some, brides will want a splash of colour to contrast with the dress – red is a favourite, closely followed by black. Facetted pieces are best, especially in when it comes to black, so the colour isn’t flat and there are light reflections to soften the look. Multi facetted transparent tones will also catch the light.

Many brides still like the classic look of freshwater pearls. Pearls reflect the natural glow of your skin; this is the look most brides are looking for. Small pearls are a sweet look; as well as dyed pearls in soft shades of pink, peach and lilac are popular. Choker style jewellery is a favourite look not forgetting the classic single string pearl necklace.

Simple classic lines are always a good choice, the understated look of a delicate curb chain with a single stone and simple stud earrings.

Sparkling jewellery, whether it is crystals, diamante, cubic zirconium or diamonds. A glint of light or a cascading shimmer, is perfect for being the center of attraction as well as brightening up the skin.

“Less is more” works well with dresses that have a lot of detail. Sparkling jewellery is often chosen as it picks up the beading, which is woven into the dress. The same is said for plainer wedding dresses, which can carry off a more detailed piece of jewellery.

Brides do not want their accessories to match their bridesmaids – brides should stand out on their big day. Plainer jewellery is often preferred for bridesmaids. Mix and match your bridesmaids jewellery, what suits one may not suit the other; it can also keep your budget down.
